FIND YOUR SOLAR FIT
Your electricity bill.
Your solar potential.
Find an indicative rooftop solar size in kW. Use your average bill, or enter the electricity units shown on it for a better estimate.
Use a typical bill, ideally based on 12 months of usage. One electricity unit = 1 kWh.
₹8 is an example, not your utility’s tariff. Enter your average energy rate.
For this bill period: fixed charges, taxes, arrears or other charges.
Slab tariffs, subsidies and bill adjustments can distort a rupee-based estimate. Use actual units whenever possible.
3.5 kW
Calculated capacity range: 2.5–3.13 kW
Planning size uses 120 units/month per kW, rounded up to the next 0.5 kW. Final panel and inverter sizes may differ.
At this planning size: roughly 420–525 units generated per month under the stated assumptions.
Discuss this estimateHow is this estimate calculated?
From a bill: monthly units = (bill amount − non-energy charges) ÷ average energy rate ÷ number of months.
From units: monthly units = units on your bill ÷ number of months.
Solar size: monthly units ÷ 150 to monthly units ÷ 120 gives the indicative kW range. For example, a ₹3,000 monthly energy bill at ₹8/unit is 375 units: about 2.5–3.13 kW, with a rounded planning size of 3.5 kW.
We use 120–150 units/month per kW and around 10 m² of shade-free roof per kW as rough planning assumptions, based on NDMC’s rooftop solar FAQs ↗. These are not a site-specific generation forecast.
kW measures power; kWh measures electricity used or generated. kV measures voltage and is not the unit for solar system size. This estimates solar capacity to offset electricity use, not your sanctioned connection load, battery size or backup needs. Actual output and bill savings depend on location, season, shading, roof orientation, losses, daytime use and local net-metering rules. Final sizing requires a site survey and utility approval where applicable.
